Find-a-Firm's new landing page design
The Council of PF Firms' new homepage design, stressing new content throughout the site. The Council of PR Firms is one of Oomph’s oldest clients, dating back to a prior website redesign project in 2006. Like Oomph, PR Firms has evolved over the years and their needs have drastically changed. Oomph has built custom applications for PR Firms – like their RFP Builder – and even helped them launch a stand-alone blog called Firm Voice on the WordPress platform. Following the success of the blog and the happier experience with the back-end user interface, it was finally time to re-examine their software needs and migrate the entire web platform to the WordPress CMS.
The site redesign was substantial and also involved the creation of a new section of content – Inside PR – which is an overview of some of the hotter topics in Public Relations, whether they be reliable industry sectors that never lose relevance, or new trending topics like Social Media. The previous site spanned a few software platforms, so it was difficult to integrate content. This new all-WordPress site makes it much easier to share upcoming events, recent blog posts, or recently shared items from Google Reader all in one sidebar.
A stronger typography design and color palette dominate the site, as well as a clear-cut way for users to navigate through and find what they need. Icons were crafted to visually encapsulate each of the six major sections of content, and each section also got its own defining color. The colors are strong, but never dominate, so it is always easy to tell where you are in the site. A “super-footer” design was used that also serves as a site map, so users can jump from one section to another and skip landing pages if they desire.
Much of what changed is also under the hood, with much-improved admin features and custom post-types. The staff at the Council can now manage all of their content in one place, promote newer items to the home page, and manage their members’ profiles all in the same place.
We hope to continue our work with the Council for years to come as their needs continue to evolve. On this platform, it will be easier to expand the capabilities of the site, because as we always say, the best website is never finished.
