Job Opportunity » WordPress Developer
Oomph is looking to grow its first-class WordPress development team, and is seeking to hire a full time, aspiring PHP programmer with the desire to become a top shelf WordPress theme and plug-in engineer.
Qualifications
Experience building custom WordPress themes and plug-ins and using the WordPress API is a major plus, but non-essential. Oomph is willing to provide training and mentoring on WordPress-specific engineering. Good fundamental programming skills, with at least basic experience writing PHP code is a must. Basic familiarity with MySQL and HTML/CSS is important; applicants with stronger HTML/CSS skills will be highly preferred. Experience with JavaScript, and ideally, frameworks like jQuery is also highly desirable.
It is important to understand that this is a web engineering position, not a web design position. A successful candidate will be passionate about mastering how themes and plug-ins work under the hood, and writing clean, organized code. If you know how to create a function and a class, and know what a loop and conditional statement are, keep reading!
Candidates with strong communication and time management skills will also be highly preferred. In order for the candidate to grow beyond a basic developer, the ability to effectively coordinate directly with multiple clients in a given week is essential.
While Oomph’s WordPress team will be on hand to mentor and assist the new developer, the right candidate would have a self-starter attitude with an aptitude for independently researching and implementing solutions.
The employee must be located in Boston, Providence, or surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
The developer will support a wide variety of programming projects that use WordPress as the underlying platform. Projects will typically focus on plug-in and theme development for both self-hosted WordPress installs and WordPress.com VIP clients. While the projects will primarily entail server-side PHP programming, they will invariably require some level of client-side programming, including HTML/CSS and JavaScript.
The developer will typically be assigned several deadlines over a given period, and is expected to effectively manage his or her time to meet those deadlines. A successful candidate with good communication skills will be expected to directly manage some clients on a day to day basis as time goes on.
The developer will be expected to stay apprised of news within the WordPress community, most notably new features and changes in WordPress core updates.
